Facilitation Training
This training is based on a unique and exciting model for personal and social change called HeartDance™
which has evolved over thirty years of experience and feedback. The model focuses on learning how to create unconditionally loving containers for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together in celebration of themselves and each other.

Listening to the Body

We ground our work in the body as the keeper of our wisdom and as the center for transformation, finding our way to a deeper sense of self-love through listening to our bodies, to each other, and to our creative impulses.

Embodied Living
Together we build the bridge between loving ourselves and reaching out to others in our families and communities with unconditional acceptance. We will play with the body as the healing bridge, trusting the sensations, the organs, the movements, the breath, and the sounds of the body to tell us the truth with no judgment.

Move, Sound, Play, Laugh, Express

There will be improvisational movement, community singing, writing poetry, theatre games, and making collages with plenty of time for sharing and integrating new information, making friends, and opening your heart!

Sunrise Ranch

“Dancing Our Way Home” will be held at the beautiful Sunrise Ranch in Loveland, Colorado. Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, this 360-acre retreat center is two hours north of the Denver International Airport (DIA). There will be lots of sunshine and wild flowers, and possibly some cooling rain and brisk nights. Come play and explore with us and go home fulfilled, refreshed, empowered and maybe even a little transformed by the magic of Heart Dance™.

Saturday afternoon we will register and get settled into our space, and Saturday evening we will gather and begin our week together. Beginning Sunday, classes will be offered daily from 8:45 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. with an hour and a half lunch break, except for Wednesday, when we will meet from 8:30 until 12:45, and then the rest of the day will be unscheduled until evening.
Evenings will offer time for informal performing and discussions as a community. This will also be a great time for journaling and personal reflection, art projects, sharing with new friends, or just resting.
Every morning and evening, we will gather to dance and sing together to live music. During the day we will have time to practice and deepen our understanding of the HeartDance™ model, explore the creative play classes of our choice, and work on creative projects. A wide range of choices in activities will be offered throughout the day, including movement composition classes, improvisational theatre games, guided authentic movement, visual art and poetry activities, vocalizing and group singing.
To mark the end of a wonderful week, Friday night’s gathering will celebrate new possibilities, deep learning, and great friendships with joyous dancing to live music, playing and feasting, and more informal improvisational performance.

Who Else Should Come?

Professionals searching for the renewed energy that comes with new skills, concepts, approaches, and practical exercises to bring to their work with youth at risk, to children in after school programs, to teaching in the classroom, or to working with culturally and socio-economically diverse groups in any setting.
Directors and Teachers passionately looking for new ways to express their own creative energy, and who are committed to skillfully facilitating others in their expression.
Artists and community leaders interested in learning more about facilitating healthy, diverse communities through creative expression and performance.
Experienced dancers and courageous beginners who want to continue to develop their gifts and skills in artistic expression, and improvisational dance and theatre.
Artists in all media reaching for ways to integrate the creative process with their own personal growth and vision.
Innovative choreographers who are ready to breathe new life into their own creative process and then use that energy to breath new life into their communities.

Alana Shaw will guide participants
as we come together in celebration of ourselves and each other. She is a master facilitator and teacher, dancer, and choreographer. She holds an MFA is Dance from the University of Colorado with a thesis on healing and reintegration through creative expression, and is the author of “Dancing Our Way Home,” a 350-page manual for facilitating dance/theatre movement.
