"This
is an amazing and wonderful experience. This is what
society is missing – people telling and sharing
stories, a sense of connection to a place and time,
and to each other." Workshop Participant |

Turning
the Wheel has developed a model for using creative
expression and performance as a way of addressing
community problems and issues. This model establishes
ongoing dance/theater communities, where participants
have the opportunity to dance, sing, perform and fully
experience the artistic process. Using the unique
issues of each community, including the personal stories
of the participants, we collaboratively create professional-quality
performance pieces. This cooperative, creative experience
provides participants and audiences with inspiration
and an effective model for transforming communities. |
|
| The
results are as individual as the challenges addressed.
For example, in one city, outreach focused on drawing
together residents of an economically depressed factory
town, with those of a very upper middle class community.
In these workshops, building trust among participants
was the greatest challenge. Ultimately, this challenge
was successfully overcome through facilitated hours
of moving and playing, and sharing together in a safe
and nurturing atmosphere, with the goal of creating
and presenting a performance together. |
