| “Individually
we were each so amazing and together we were stunning.
It was a powerful moment for me as a performer and as
a young woman who has grown up without a father because
I was being seen and I was safe and held within the arms
of this new community. I didn’t want the show to
ever end.” Georgia
Rose, Confetti 2000 performer. |

Generous
contributions from foundations, individuals and corporations
enable TTW to continue creating communities that connect
people in unique and unthreatening ways through collaborative,
creative expression and performance.
TTW welcomes monetary or in-kind contributions from individuals
in support of our innovative programs that are reaching
out and building community locally and across the nation:
Successes of the past year include piloting and evaluating
intensive programs in Boulder-area schools, developing
a training manual in response to requests from facilitators
and educators across the country, facilitator trainings
in Boulder for people from all over the U.S., and additional
trainings in Lawrence/Andover and Los Angeles, CA, establishing
stable satellite programs in seven communities across
the nation. |
|
| In
the coming year, our efforts will focus on: |
| • |
Ongoing
programming at schools in Boulder County serving
a projected 350 students at seven different locations.
Our facilitators work with each group of children
for an extended period of time (up to six hours
per week in some cases), an important factor in
our programs’ success in building teams
and developing leaders. |
| • |
Educational
and performing residencies by Turning the Wheel
staff in each Turning the Wheel target city. Full
scheduling details are available upon request.
These programs will serve an estimated 1200 young
people in partnership with schools and community
organizations in six other cities. |
| • |
Programs
in partnership with youth service organizations
in Boulder and all six satellite cities; partners
include after-school programs, homeless shelters,
teen parent programs, and rehab programs as well
as YWCA’s and teen leadership groups. These
partnerships bring a rich diversity of participants
to each Turning the Wheel program. |
| • |
Facilitator
trainings, using the new Turning the Wheel training
guide, which has been drafted, field-tested and
evaluated over the course of the past few years.
Educators and youth service workers in partnership
with TTW have been eager to have this resource
to enhance their ability to apply the TTW model
in their own work setting. |
| • |
Continued
evaluation of our model’s applicability.
Our focus will be leadership development and establishing
mentoring relationships. Our observations and
anecdotal analysis make it quite clear that our
programs are effective in these areas; we are
eager for a more quantitative assessment so that
we can develop and replicate these findings. |
